Journal Guide

The Journal of Earthquake Engineering is a publication of peer-reviewed papers on research and development in analytical, experimental and field studies of earthquakes from an engineering seismology as well as a structural engineering viewpoint. The Journal combines the three most important ingredients for a successful technical publication; the highest possible technical quality, speed of publication and competitive subscription rates. The journal draws on research and development work from engineering communities worldwide in the fields of earthquake engineering and engineering seismology. Work on experimental, analytical, design, and field studies will be considered for publication. The following is a nonexhaustive list of topics considered to be within the scope of the journal: * Historical seismicity * Tectonics and seismology * Strong-motion studies * Soil dynamics and foundations * Site effects and geotechnical aspects * Dynamic soil-structure interaction * Foundation design for earthquake loading * Seismic response of buildings * Seismic response of bridges and other special structures * Lifelines earthquake engineering * Passive and active systems for earthquake protection * Repair and strengthening * Earthquake disaster mitigation and emergency planning * Case histories and field studies * Seismic sea-waves (Tsunamis) Original state-of-the-art papers are also welcome. Timely papers on field investigations following damaging earthquakes will be considered for accelerated review and publication. Also, the journal extends a special invitation to authors of short communications of new research findings that may not have been developed sufficiently to warrant full-length papers.

Journal of Earthquake and Tsunami provides a common forum for scientists and engineers working in the areas of earthquakes and tsunamis to communicate and interact with one another and thereby enhance the opportunities for such cross-fertilization of ideas. The Journal publishes original papers pertaining to state-of-the-art research and development in Geological and Seismological Setting; Ground Motion, Site and Building Response; Tsunami Generation, Propagation, Damage and Mitigation, as well as Education and Risk Management following an earthquake or a tsunami.

This unique publication focuses on linguistic issues as they pertain to East Asian languages. It bridges the gap between traditional description and current theoretical research and encourages research that allows these languages to play a significant role in shaping general linguistic theory. The Journal of East Asian Linguistics (JEAL) features Theoretically oriented work on any aspect of the syntax, semantics, pragmatics, phonology, and morphology of an East Asian language. Comparative work among East Asian languages and/or between an East Asian language and any other languages that contributes to the parametric theory of universal grammar. Formal analysis of any aspect of the grammar at any historical stage of a language or the historical development of any language providing it has a bearing on East Asian languages. Interdisciplinary contributions from psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and computational linguistics that have a particular bearing on the study of East Asian languages.

The Journal of Eastern African Studies is the international publication of the British Institute in Eastern Africa, published three times each year. It aims to promote fresh scholarly enquiry on the region from within the humanities and the social sciences, and to encourage work that communicates across disciplinary boundaries. The Journal of Ecohydraulics (TJoE) embodies the varied research undertaken in ecohydraulics covering water resources and aquatic life, ecology, biology, hydraulics, engineering, geoscience, environmental science, climate change and other related fields, with an emphasis on the integration of these disciplines.

The Journal is of interest to academics involved in fundamental or applied sciences, as well as practitioners and policy makers working at the applied environmental management end of the spectrum, including those who seek innovative solutions to environmental assessment, impacts of and mitigation for existing or new projects.

A range of approaches are invited – from physical and numerical modelling to empirical laboratory experimentation and field studies – aimed to answer fundamental questions and solve challenges of value to real world applications. Articles that demonstrate novel investigations and research interactions, bridging disciplinary divides, as well as integrate physical and ecological processes are particularly welcomed.

Key contributors comprise of aquatic biologists and ecologists, environmental and climate change scientists, civil, mechanical, and environmental engineers, regulators and policy makers, natural resource managers, and conservationists.

TJoE Topics

• Ecohydraulic topics are broadly based on the trilogy of a) aquatic biota movements, b) e-flows, i.e. environmental, instream or ecological flow regimes, and c) habitat or ecological restoration.
• Ecohydraulics deals with aquatic life in freshwater, lentic and marine ecosystems, native as well as introduced or invasive species, climate change effects, environmental impacts and mitigation measures; incorporates species-habitat relationships, the need and ways to ensure biota can overcome any artificial physical or behavioural barriers to their movements; interactions of ecological and biological aspects with groundwater, ice and thermal regimes, water quality, ocean habitats, wetlands, deltas, floodplains or channels.
• Ecohydraulic science pertinent to aquatic life, including fluid mechanics, morphodynamics, fluvial geomorphology, hydrology and ice processes.
• Aquatic fauna ecology and biology relevant to ecohydraulic science, including exotic species, artificial habitats, habitat preferences, movements, behaviour, biomechanics, bioenergetics, and population dynamics.
• Aquatic ecology and biology from individual to population level, over a range of spatial (habitat patch to river basin) and temporal scales.
• Mitigation measures, including biota passageways, fishways, fish screens, improvement, rehabilitation or replacement of habitats, wetlands, deltas or broader ecosystems.
• River basin, ecosystem, estuarine, delta, and wetland restoration, including removal of dams and other water infrastructure, environmental impact assessment and aquatic ecosystems assessment.

The list above should be treated as indicative rather than fully exhaustive. Topics not mentioned above but still related to hydro-environment research may also be considered.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editors, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to single blind peer review by at least two independent, anonymous expert referees.
