The Journal of Ethnicity in Substance Abuse (formerly Drugs & Society) presents rigorous new studies and research on ethnicity and cultural variation in alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse. The research is drawn from many disciplines and interdisciplinary areas in the social and behavioral sciences and helping professions. The journal is an important addition to current addiction studies education, providing background knowledge and intervention techniques to educators, policymakers, and practitioners working with today's diverse client population. The Journal of Ethnicity in Substance Abuse is an international forum for culturally competent strategies in individual, group, and family treatment of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse. The journal also offers strategies for program development and evaluation, prevention programming, and harm reduction strategies that are ethnically or culturally appealing. This journal systematically investigates the beliefs, attitudes, and values of substance abusers, searching for the answers to the origins of drug use and abuse for different populations. Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine is ready to consider manuscripts on any research area of ethnobiology and ethnomedicine.

The Journal of Ethnopharmacology is dedicated to the exchange of information and understandings about people's use of plants, fungi, animals, microorganisms and minerals and their biological and pharmacological effects based on the principles established through international conventions. Early people confronted with illness and disease, discovered a wealth of useful therapeutic agents in the plant and animal kingdoms. The empirical knowledge of these medicinal substances and their toxic potential was passed on by oral tradition and sometimes recorded in herbals and other texts on materia medica. Many valuable drugs of today (e.g., atropine, ephedrine, tubocurarine, digoxin, reserpine) came into use through the study of indigenous remedies. Chemists continue to use plant-derived drugs (e.g., morphine, taxol, physostigmine, quinidine, emetine) as prototypes in their attempts to develop more effective and less toxic medicinals.In recent years the preservation of local knowledge, the promotion of indigenous medical systems in primary health care, and the conservation of biodiversity have become even more of a concern to all scientists working at the interface of social and natural sciences but especially to ethnopharmacologists. Recognizing the sovereign rights of States over their natural resources, ethnopharmacologists are particularly concerned with local people's rights to further use and develop their autochthonous resources.Accordingly, today's ethnopharmacological research embraces the multidisciplinary effort in the:• documentation of indigenous medical knowledge,• scientific study of indigenous medicines in order to contribute in the long-run to improved health care in the regions of study, as well as• search for pharmacologically unique principles from existing indigenous remedies.The Journal of Ethnopharmacology publishes original articles concerned with the observation and experimental investigation of the biological activities of plant and animal substances used in the traditional medicine of past and present cultures. The journal will particularly welcome interdisciplinary papers with an ethnopharmacological, an ethnobotanical or an ethnochemical approach to the study of indigenous drugs. Reports of anthropological and ethnobotanical field studies fall within the journal's scope. Studies involving pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms of action are especially welcome. Clinical studies on efficacy will be considered if contributing to the understanding of specific ethnopharmacological problems. The journal welcomes review articles in the above mentioned fields especially those highlighting the multi-disciplinary nature of ethnopharmacology. Commentaries are by invitation only.

The Journal of Ethology features reviews and original papers relating to all aspects of animal behavior, including traditional ethology. The journal presents papers on field, laboratory, and theoretical studies. In contrast to ethological journals that prefer studies testing explicit hypotheses, the Journal of Ethology publishes both in observational studies and in experimental studies. The journal is published with the Japan Ethological Society, which was formed in 1982 with the objectives of advancing and disseminating knowledge of the principles and applications of ethology, and fostering the exchange of scientific information not only among Japanese but also worldwide ethologists.

The Journal of European Integration publishes articles with a focus on European integration and an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary perspective, thus integrating politics, European political economy, law, history, and sociology. European integration is understood as pan-European rather than as merely the EU, though the bulk of contributions might be devoted to the latter. It also presents comparative studies of federalism, other forms of regional integration, and articles dealing with EU external relations, whether in the trade or security policy field. We discourage articles looking at single country case studies.The main purpose of the Journal of European Integration is to serve a wide readership which implies that articles should be of a general rather than a specific or specialised nature. In other words, the emphasis should be on scholarly work (analysis rather than description) and submissions should provide explanations about the process of integration in a historical or comparative fashion. Given the interdisciplinary nature, authors are encouraged to write in a clear and accessible style.Contributions are published in English. Landscape is often described as a typical European theme, which is increasingly studied on a European level. However, there is no journal that focuses on the international dimensions of landscape and heritage. The Journal of European Landscapes fills this gap by stimulating and promoting both empirical research and reflexive thinking on the history and heritage of the landscapes of Europe.

It is important to understand landscapes on this international scale, as policies on landscape and heritage are increasingly influenced by economic interdependence, political integration and the politics of the European Union. Heritage, defined as present uses of the past, connects historical research with the practice of landscape planning and management.

Scholars increasingly use comparative approaches to landscape and heritage within disciplines with a spatial dimension, such as geography, archaeology, environmental humanities, landscape research and heritage studies. Also in research methods, there is growing international exchange.

The Journal of European Landscapes offers a platform for knowledge exchange on the historical and heritage aspects of rural, urban and industrial landscapes of Europe, particularly for comparative, international and contextualising approaches. Both contributions with historical and heritage perspectives are welcomed.

Focusing on the dynamics of public policy in Europe, the journal encourages a wide range of social science approaches, both qualitative and quantitative. JEPP defines European public policy widely and welcomes innovative ideas and approaches. The main areas covered by the Journal are as follows: * Theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of public policy in Europe and elsewhere * National public policy developments and processes in Europe * Comparative studies of public policy within Europe * The public policy interface between nation states and the EU * The EU itself - institutions, processes and policies * The activities of private actors and associations in the policy process In addition, JEPP also publishes a Research Agenda section (edited by Berthold Rittberger, University of Mannheim, Germany).
