Journal Guide

To this end, SoftwareX aims to support publication of research software in such a way that:

• The software is given a stamp of scientific relevance, and provided with a peer-reviewed recognition of scientific impact;
• The software developers are given the credits they deserve;
• The software is citable, allowing traditional metrics of scientific excellence to apply;
• The academic career paths of software developers are supported rather than hindered;
• The software is publicly available for inspection, validation, and re-use.

Above all, SoftwareX aims to inform researchers about software applications, tools and libraries with a (proven) potential to impact the process of scientific discovery in various domains. The journal is multidisciplinary and accepts submissions from within and across subject domains such as those represented within the broad thematic areas below:

• Mathematical and Physical Sciences;
• Environmental Sciences;
• Medical and Biological Sciences;
• Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

Originating from these broad thematic areas, the journal also welcomes submissions of software that works in cross cutting thematic areas, such as citizen science, cybersecurity, digital economy, energy, global resource stewardship, health and wellbeing, etcetera.

SoftwareX specifically aims to accept submissions representing domain-independent software that may impact more than one research domain.

Domain independent underpinning software tools and technologies have for too long been underrepresented in academic literature. We wish to ensure that these software items get academic recognition and welcome submissions of software tools and services that may otherwise not have a publication home. Examples include mathematical or image processing libraries or methodologies, visualization tools, data management, etcetera.

Through the quality of the description and of the (potential) impact of the software deposited we aim that significant reuse will occur both within and without the original developing domain and therefore encourage consideration of this reuse factor when submitting and in the language used within the description.

Submissions to SoftwareX consist of two major parts:

• A short descriptive paper of max. 6 pages;
• An open source software distribution with support material.

This ISTRO-affiliated journal examines the physical, chemical and biological changes in the soil caused by tillage and field traffic. Manuscripts will be considered on aspects of soil science, physics, technology, mechanization and applied engineering for a sustainable balance among productivity, environmental quality and profitability. The following are examples of suitable topics within the scope of the journal of Soil and Tillage Research:The agricultural and biosystems engineering associated with tillage (including no-tillage, reduced-tillage and direct drilling), irrigation and drainage, crops and crop rotations, fertilization, rehabilitation of mine spoils and processes used to modify soils. AIMSSoil Biology & Biochemistry publishes original, scientifically challenging research articles of international significance that describe and explain biological processes occurring in soil. These include the possible applications of such knowledge to issues of soil and environmental quality - insofar as such studies inform our understanding of the role of soil biology and biochemistry in mediating soil functions, agricultural sustainability and ecosystem services. The ecology and biochemical processes of soil organisms, their effects on the environment and their interactions with plants are major topics. The applications of new molecular, microscopic and analytical techniques to understanding and explaining population and community dynamics is of great interest. The journal also publishes state-of-the-art reviews of contemporary research that present significant and novel hypotheses, as well as comments and arguments about specific and often controversial aspects of life in the soil.SCOPEThe scope of Soil Biology & Biochemistry is wide and embraces accounts of recent original research on any aspect of the biology and biochemistry of soils. Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering is one of the few international journals all over the world that provides engineers, scientific researchers, construction and design specialists with the latest achievements in soil and rock mechanics theory, experimental investigations, geotechnical and foundation engineering problems and innovative solutions, design and construction practice in regions with regular and extreme soil conditions. Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering is a translation of the peer reviewed Russian journal Osnovaniya, Fundamenty i Mechanica Gruntov, established in Russia more than 50 years ago and presenting the articles of leading specialists not only from Russia but also from Asian, European and other countries.

The journal publishes papers interpreting the outcome of scholarly inquiry, investigation, modeling, or experimentation designed to develop new or revise existing concepts or techniques in any phase of soil science. Areas of coverage include soil physics and chemistry, soil biology and biochemistry, soil fertility and plant nutrition, pedology (genesis, morphology, and classification), soil and water management and conservation, mineralogy, and soil and plant analysis. Published four times a year on behalf of British Society of Soil Science, Soil Use and Management contains highly relevant, original research and aims to communicate an understanding of management techniques for the sustainable use of land. Papers taking a broad view of 'use' and 'management' covering agriculture, forestry and amenity provision are accepted.
